Washington Memorial Chapel is both a national memorial dedicated to General George Washington and an active Episcopal parish in Valley Forge. Washington Memorial Chapel’s cornerstone was laid in 1903 and the main portion of the Chapel was completed 1928. The Chapel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 1, 2017. While the Chapel is not part of Valley Forge National Historical Park, it resides within Park boundaries and is a valued partner of The Encampment Store.

Washington Memorial Chapel was the first memorial to George Washington at Valley Forge. With its cornerstone laid in 1903, this spectacular Gothic Revival structure features breathtaking stained-glass windows, among the most beautiful in the world, that tell the story of the founding and development of the American nation. Throughout the Chapel, most notably in the wood carving, the metal work, and the windows, the work of America’s finest artisans is everywhere evident. During your tour, which can accommodate up to 15 people, a Chapel guide will share the story of this remarkable monument and point out the architectural highlights. Larger groups can be accommodated by special arrangement.*

The Gothic Revival was an important architectural movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries influencing both religious and secular buildings. The Washington Memorial Chapel is an excellent example of this architecture, and a tour guide will discuss the origins of the style and point out its realization in the Chapel’s design and execution. The Arts and Crafts Movement and the Washington Memorial Chapel, 30-minute tour, $75
The Washington Memorial Chapel is a prime example of and displays the remarkable collaborative effort among the finest representatives of the Arts and Crafts movement in early 20th century America. This tour will introduce visitors to the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and its expression by the famous artisans who contributed to the Chapel. Ideal for up to 15 people; larger groups can be accommodated by special arrangement.*
