Facsimile reprint of the 1794 edition of Frederick William Baron von Steuben’s Revolutionary War drill manual used with the troops encamped at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-1778. At Valley Forge, Steuben formed a model drill company of one hundred specially selected men and undertook to drill them in person – all the while, writing these drill instructions that eventually grew into the Regulations for Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States. This manual of drill and field regulations became the foundation of military, were officially approved by Congress on March 29, 1779 and remained the official US military guide until 1812.
